Its most common usage is as a proxy server, which is used to allow Internet access to all the computers within an organization. It helps achieve an appropriate use of the Internet, allowing access only to the pages you want, blocking access to specific sites or categories.

ADVANTAGES:

• Fast response time: the proxy server creates a cache that prevents identical transfers of information between servers during a period of time (configured by the administrator), so the user receives a faster response.

• Content filtering: the proxy server can filter pages and contents based on restriction criteria set by the administrator, depending on values and characteristics of what is not allowed, creating a restriction when necessary.
• Modification of contents: based on the same filtering function, and called privoxy, it has objective is to protect privacy on the Internet; it can be configured to block cookies and addresses through regular expressions, and modifies the content upon request.
